Step 4: Propose a scheme for assessing causal variables
If we want to leave our theory useful for judging ethnic individuals's selfidentities and in understanding the process through which those identities evolve, we must set up a method to measure the status of the three life-state variables as well as the four added process variables.
To start, we suppose that each of these variants signifies a scale and a ethnic individual's understandings may be located in a specific location on every scale at just about any specified time of life. In Figure 5-2 we diagram the primary three scales and present how they may function to show distinct people' understandings of the three causal factors. We exemplify using the scales by revealing how hypothetical information may be charted. As an example, we are able to reveal how, in the eyes of a ethnic lad,
his mom's culture (Group A) is found as more advantageous than his dad's (Group B),
his mom's relatives (Family A) handle him better than do his dad's relatives (Family B), and
nonfamily members of his dad's culture (Ethnic Group B) are more consistent in their own treatment of him than are nonfamily members of his mom's culture (Cultural Group A), a number of whom handle him nicely, some fairly well, and some quite poorly.
We are able to create similar scales for showing the added variables: (a) the ethnic man's interpretation of how life states change her or his welfare, (b) the individual's behaviour as affected by self-identity, (c) other individuals's reactions to such conduct, and (d) the individual's interpretation of such reactions.
Measure 5 & 6: Formulate and implement evaluation techniques
Eventually, the job of rendering our operation by creating special methods for assessing the variables as well as their interactions and using those techniques to ethnic individuals's self-individuality is a daunting homework that individuals won't effort here. Instead, we shall merely notice a thesis or dissertation may either entail performing just the initial three measures of the theory development procedure or consist of all five measures. The latter choice is clearly the more challenging, but it creates more useful knowledge.
